Awareness of violence against older women is growing, but data remain limited

Violence against women and girls is found in all countries and affects women of all ages. Globally, 26 per cent of ever-partnered women aged 15 and older (641 million) have been subjected to physical and/ or sexual violence by a husband or intimate partner at least once in their lifetime. Limited evidence points to an intensification of violence against women during the pandemic. A 2021 rapid gender assessment survey in 13 countries, undertaken by the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women (UN Women), found that 45 per cent of women reported that they or a woman they know has experienced some form of violence since COVID-19.

“In a society built in the image of men, half the population, women, are systematically ignored. This is evidenced by the shocking
absence of available data on women’s bodies, habits and needs”

Inclusive

Women are underrepresented in tech, research, and leadership positions. This gap has important consequences for their empowerment and contributes to biases in research and AI. At LODelle, we believe that involving all genders in research and decision-making will broaden the perspectives, increase creativity and innovation, and reduce conflicts.

Collaborative

LODelle will be more than just a data repository. It will be an open community where people can work together to make data valuable. Without proper analysis, data is merely a collection of numbers. By fostering teamwork, our platform will make gender data actionable.

Transparent

The data behind research results and decision-making is often centralized and hidden. Yet, reproducibility and accountability depend on data transparency. At LODelle, we believe that democratizing data is essential for creating an ethical and credible system.

Our Values

What are we going to do

LODelle will be a free, open platform where
users can share :

Gender-disaggregated
data
Data-based research seeking to improve the lives of women and girls across the world
Code, statistical models, and “notebooks” used to analyze the datasets
Research articles written using
the uploaded data.

All uploaded data will be reviewed by our team of data scientists, who will

Intersectional feminist principles are transforming data science and our future society

The idea for LODelle was born at an innovation lab in Berlin called High Tech & Herz in October 2022. After a jury pitch, we won government funding and immediately got to work!

One post on LinkedIn later, several people joined the team from all across Europe. Our mission attracts and excites many, and we believe that LODelle will quickly grow into a thriving community.

We are humbled by the support we have received and can’t wait to move forward.
